6 Ways to rank your blog higher on Google

What do you need to get a high ranking blog? People have different opinions, some say long articles are the key while others think the quality of the content is what makes a difference. But we have come up with a few tips to make sure Google likes what you’re writing.

1)  Just because the article is long it doesn’t mean it’ll rank high

People immediately assume that having long worded articles means that they are more helpful. But this isn’t always the case. When authors write long articles they need content to make it that long and some topics aren’t broad enough to do that. This leads to having paragraphs with similar topics that don’t answer the question asked. The Google engine is smart enough to realize this and adjust your article in their database appropriately. So even if you wrote a 3000-word article Google checks to see what actually relates to the main title and might judge the words to be lesser than presented. This isn’t just bad from a ranking point of view though. When people read your article it’s because they think that it will be helpful. If your answer is long-winded it’ll confuse them and they’ll lose interest. Some ways you can make sure to stay on topic is by making sure that you have your subheadings planned. When you have specific topics that you want to address then it’s harder to get distracted or go off on a tangent. 2)  So how worded should the article be to increase rankings?

Usually, around 1900 words are enough but there isn’t an exact number. Yes having longer articles makes it seem like you have more information on the topic but it doesn’t work for certain subjects. Some topics are pretty simple; they don’t need complicated answers. In fact when you’re direct with answering questions you have a higher chance of being put in the Google snippet. This makes you more visible to viewers and Google begins to trust your site more. If the information you’re providing is accurate and precise it can go a long way in helping your ranking. While longer blog posts do get ranked higher usually it doesn’t influence the people who look through the page. People, unlike machines, have a variety of factors why they want to read an article. It can’t just be informative the article has to be interesting too. People want to be entertained no matter the medium so make sure you deliver. When there are long interesting articles they get shared more, increasing the people who end up viewing them.

3)  So does this mean every article you write has to be around 1900 words?

No, in fact, it’s better to have a variety depending on the topics you’re writing about. For example, topics that are very simple like why do we need 8 hours of sleep could be written in around 1350 words. People already know they need sleep so as a writer your job is to give them the clear facts not go off-topic. What about topics that are a bit more complicated? Things that you could take in a number of directions because there isn’t a clear answer to give. These articles need to be around 2500 words. Since there isn’t one right answer it’s okay to mention the different options and explain why they’re valid. Being clear with the reader can be very helpful. Of course, this option can’t always work. There are some topics that are so broad that you can write it that short without leaving out crucial information for those kinds of posts we recommend writing to around 3500 words. This gives the viewer all the information they need without dragging on and on. Having a limit can be helpful in determining whether you’re writing enough. But it’s important to keep in mind that the numbers we specified above are all averages. It’s okay to keep to your own limit if it helps you write your blog better. People don’t just care about how long the article is but how useful it is as well.

4)  If you want to write longer to increase ranking here are some tips

Writers commonly try to increase the working in articles by adding unneeded words. It makes sentences harder to read and it makes it tough to follow through with. This lowers the quality of the article. A good rule of thumb, make the content as sophisticated as the title. The people who are searching for the topic are a certain demographic. They expect the article to be at a certain level. It can’t be too high as you may give too much-unneeded information. But the level can’t be too low either as you’ll be giving tips that people may already have thought of. When people write articles with obvious answers your viewers aren’t pleased. If they already have this information why would they want to read your blog? This is where having specific tips can be helpful. It gives viewers a fresh perspective on the same topic so it keeps them interested. It can teach them some new valuable info and as more people search your article your blog gets ranked higher.

5)  But what if I make mistakes and my ranking goes down?

Anyone can write an article which is why it’s hard to trust ones without the backing of expert websites or authors. We may not know as much as the experts but that doesn’t mean our advice isn’t valuable. But when articles have obvious fact mistakes it is the quickest way to get people to ditch your site. Instead of having mountains of tabs open, this saves time and space when you’re sure all your information is correct you can resolve the comments. If you’re sure that your content is accurate you’re taking your first step in making a high-quality article. But written facts aren’t the only things you need to worry about. Articles don’t compete with just words but pictures as well. It has to be eye-catching to grab people’s attention but people forget that it has to be accurate as well. If the article is about vegetables you can’t have tomatoes in the picture. They’re a fruit and people who notice that will think the rest of the article has such mistakes as well. We have software like spellcheck to make sure our mistakes are lessened but it doesn’t always help. It helps write down words correctly but the software doesn’t always understand the point you’re trying to get across. This is why someone needs to check over the work before it’s published. If you have to do it from beginning to end we recommend taking a small break before going back to the article. When you’re writing you end up so used to all the words that your mind automatically corrects the sentences. But for a first-time viewer, they’ll be able to pick up the mistakes almost immediately and it can be a jarring experience.
